DJ Ames UK-US 'We Ain't Playin' (mixtape)

DJ Ames is still fairly new on the mix tape scene but this hasn’t gone against him; bringing fresh new artists from UK and US to this new mix tape ‘UK-US We Ain’t Playin’ has shown this.

At only 24 years of age Ames has worked with some big names such as Ruff Ryders, Flip Mode and Grand Hustle (P$C). Hes regularly pushing boundaries by hitting up fans with a free downloadable mix tape series called, ‘US-UK Takeover’ featuring strictly unsigned US and UK artists. By doing the series, he has gained a lot of attention from artists and record companies, at 5000 downloads per mix tape what do you expect!

This is the second mix tape coming from Ames, the first one ‘Raw Talent Vol.1’ featured Grime, UK Hip Hop and R&B, many of the artists featured appeared on Channel U and even MTV Base. The mix tape wasn’t a huge success for Ames but ‘you have to take risks to get your name known, if you’re not prepared to take risks then don’t step into this game’ wise words from Ames for any up and coming MC, DJ or Producer about to step up to the game.

This mix tape features over 20 UK and US artists, many of these being unsigned. The mix tape opens with a conversation between Ames and Envy and then straight into the first track also by Envy featuring Lady Fury, ‘Calm Down’. I had a feeling that this would be the theme of the CD; grimey, dirty Hip Hop, and I was right. Big tracks from, AK The Razorman featuring Killer Mike, Hybrid & MC Sez and also big name Chamillonaire on a track with Late and Trae, to name a few.

The US brought dirty south beats with Yung Joc/Lil Jon-esq lyrics and flow. The UK brought grimey big beat Hip Hop with fast lyrical flow. Don’t get it twisted, pure UK Hip Hop is still featured, for example, a big tune from ‘South Paw Gritty, Day-G and Smooth Deep- F*** U Haters’. Garage is also featured on this CD with a big track from ‘Tania featuring G – I Can Be Your Girl’ which has smooth R&B lyrics and flow and an old school garage beat.

With the youth of today listening to Grime and the grimier side of Hip Hop, Ames has zoned in on this and has it on lock down. DJ Ames is providing the platform for these artists to get heard and Ames is getting the respect on the game for this.

‘UK-US, We Aint Playin’ will be dropping in stores from this summer.
