This isnt a hiphop mix. This CD is put together by DJ Marky and consists of nothin but rollin Drum n' Bass. This was put together live and in one take (nb: all you Ibiza compilations take note) - and for the whole 70 minutes the mixing is tight. The track selection and ordering is bare heavy - not your usual 'wait for the drop' style but properly mixed and well tempered throughout. A definite pick me up selection n' hopefully a statement of intent - d'n'b is dropping the screwface attitude n' might be getting back to creating good party vibes. I'm not overly up-to-date on the 'scene' but this mix indicates nothing but positivity to me. You cant listen to hiphop n' funk all the time - if your all under prescription for winter blues - be taking this twice a day until May. A major and welcome shift is the lack of an MC in the mix - this really opens up space which allows the music to create a vibe. I think this can happen without boring the listener cos of a shift in DnB production whereby vocal elements are being introduced alongside a more diverse musical structure. For a great example of this check the mix between Shy FX's - Shake It and DJ Marky/Patife/Esom's - So Tinha Que Ser Com Voce. I'm not insinuating theres been a huge paradigm shift cos theres still the usual style from the likes of Ed Rush + Optical, Bad Company, John B, Krust, etc - theres just seems to be a lot more swing to the whole vibe. I'm shit at explaining things so simply go check this mix CD and soak up the vibes. It should come with a non 'head-nodding feet-tapping' money back guarantee....no one's gonna ask for their money back.
