This group from Chicago has been cooking up a storm here in the UK for a while now. This latest release has been eagerly awaited by many, leading up to the new album. The title track on this three song single is ‘Stellar’. The beats by Memo are deep like a Atlantic trench, with the beautiful string loop lacing the track. The chorus is a nice blend of cutting and sampling, kinda like DJ Premier. The lyrics by Capital D keep the track together with tight words.
‘Ill Advisory’ feat. J.U.I.C.E is not a great track in my view, is not shit, just kinda average. If the first track wasn’t so good then it would be a nice track, but its gets eclipsed by what has gone before. The production has too much going on for my liking but the head still nods, the lyrics are somewhat better however.
‘Underground & Independent’, dark horns stalking the backing, with more very tight lyrics = another good track but still not as good as the first. So although this single is wicked, I hope the new Album is more like the first track than the other two, but still buy this record. Well worth it for the money, I just don’t really like the second track.
