DJ Journee aka Anonms Emcee The Globe 12"

This debut release from Chicago based Mindshift presents an introductory record to display the solo production and emcee skills of DJ Journee. The opening track ‘Uh-Oh’ is dominated by a hypnotic analogue b-line that works itself into crazy patterns through pitch adjustments – you’ll recognise the influence of older pre-‘94 jungle tracks. The rapper gently flows across the surface of the beat but the digital production really holds your attention with its video game sampling electronic funk. The second and third tracks get progressively expansive and jazzy to allow the emcee to spit his original and skilful rhymes in a slightly Rakim-esque manner. Overall - a very impressive debut platter from a new head displaying real skills within all elements this truly solo venture.
