 DJ Dez The Natural 12"

Smooth set of five hip hop instrumentals from the Slum Village live collaborator. The first track ‘Hollywood’ is a reworking of Rufus featuring Chaka Khan’s 1977 hit and transforms the original into a mid-tempo bass heavy ballad with subtle vocal breakdowns. A further highlight is provided by the lush track ‘Word’ which slinks into view with deep and sultry organ driven hip hop – my favourite track and one to bring out on the next open mic session. The EP is rounded off by ‘Detroit Detour’ which rattle n’ rolls through the speakers with an eclectic use of percussion being held together by a deep b-line riff and repetitive vocal hook. Overall, a well balanced set of chilled hip hop instrumentals providing an insight into the high quality output we can expect from this Detroit based producer – a couple of standout tracks and others needing further vocal enhancement.
