Verbal Kent/Earatik Statik Alley Rap 7"

The London-based Filthy Habits label brings us some of Chicago’s finest on a double A side. Side A features Verbal Kent featuring Wordsworth and Rusty Chains on the grimy “Alley Rap” whilst side AA has Earatik Statik featuring Kool Keith and Black Silver on “Mission Destruction.” This is a strong 12” release and Filthy Habits certainly have a good ear for strong rappers.

“Alley Rap” is a low rumbling piano-led track with some tight scratched in vocal inserts on the chorus. Verbal Kent, despite his English name, brings it hard over the brooding beat. He delivers some street wisdom, whilst the ever-excellent Wordsworth delivers a guest spot that makes his album “Mirror Music” such a heavily anticipated release. “Mission Destruction” features every rap fan-boy’s hero, Kool Keith delivering a strong guest verse and Earatik Statik’s fierce grumbling voice is all over the boom-bap. Black Silver also brings it hard with a high pitched stoccatto flow. Another cool track. The 12 also features “Makin Moves” also off Earatik Statik’s album also with Kool Keith and Black Silver. A fucker of a kick drum makes this another dope track. Worth picking up.
