Blendcrafters feat. MF Doom, Derf Reklaw & Carol Kaye Melody 12"

Numark and Pomo come back a year on from their self-titled long player with a remix of ‘Melody’, one of the highlights from the LP. While the track itself has changed little a year on it’s the vocal addition of MF Doom that makes this single even more appealing. As the MC who gets around most these days, you could be forgiven for getting tired of Doom’s flow and delivery but on ‘Melody’ he fits the track so well it’s impossible not to nod your head and smile to his tongue twisting lyrics. Using the original cuts and vocal samples as choruses this is more than just a quick buck remix. It’s also nice to see Numark and Pomo’s backward approach to their project. Releasing a full instrumental LP before dropping vocal singles, a process which is the norm in reverse with most hip hop releases.
And the flip isn’t half bad either. The crafters take on Eddie Harris, and team up with legendary bassist Carol Kaye and drummer Derf Reklaw to deliver a funky rendition of ‘Bold and Black’. This is definitely one to check if you enjoyed the Blendcrafters first time round and a good occasion to catch up if you didn’t.
