Panacea Thinking Back, Looking Forward EP
Let me tell you, we’re now in February 2006 and I’m already confident enough to state that you’ll not hear a better EP come from the states this year. I’d be talking from my unspeakables if I said I’d heard of Panacea before getting this record, but I’d not be lying if I said I’d be checking for more stuff in the future.
Sounding something like Zion I crossed with Binary Star, Panacea are a fairly un-aggressive outfit, with smooth creative beats and meaningful rhymes being the building blocks to this skyscraper of an EP. ‘Birdfeather’ is undoubtedly the standout track, with almost cosmic, racy production; this is one that gets the adrenaline rushing when you hear it the first time. The rhymes by Raw Poetic fit beautifully and seem to smooth themselves over the top of the beats to fit them perfectly. ‘The Great Escape’ is another amazing track, which despite using the same harsh sample as Mobb did on ‘Up-north Trip’, is a really chilled affair. The chorus is soulfully sung Lenny Kravitz style by some fella called Drew Thomas and once again the rhymes are served thick and heavy.
The production by K-Murdock should have people taking serious notice because this guys beats are so consistently dope throughout this EP. Likewise, Raw Poetic is no emcee-mug and together they make Panacea a serious force to be reckoned with. Be sure to make the effort in tracking this EP down, because it might just be the panacea for all your hiphop woes.
