Straight out of H-Town, Screwston or better known as Houston, Texas to us UK kids comes a rapper well worth talking about. With a barrage of Houston rappers taking over the mainstream rap game in the US such as Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Chamillionaire, Bun B, Lil Flip and Slim Thug, a lot of attention is on this Southern city at the moment. The reason? Well the Houston scene is like a scene within itself – its own style of clothes; white long tee-shirts, its own drink; called drank which is medicine mixed with sprite! Its own slowed down style of hip-hop called ‘chopped & screwed’ as well as having a slang unique to that city. This track celebrates that fact with the help of some killer guests. C-Note from The Botany Boys (an original member of DJ Screw’s (R.I.P) ‘Screwed Up Clik’), West Coast porn-rap legend Too Short and Deep’s label mate Jhaime all give quality performances. Dirty South rapper Deep is to my knowledge the first ever Punjabi rapper from the South, if not the US. This kind of adds to the attraction as his flow and lyrical capacity is tight. His on-point delivery starts the track well and he holds it well alongside such legendary MC’s. On this CD single you only get one track, but what a track it is. It comes in dirty, clean, instrumental and accapella versions making this a must for budding DJ/Producers dying to do those fancy remixes for mixtapes. It’s a laid-back anthem with soulful production and is something that should be played loud the first time you see sun this year in England! India meets Houston meets the West Coast – mad combination maybe, excellent tune definitely!
