MC Lyte The Wonder Years 12"

This is a vintage slice of Premo production in the early vein, with a funky guitar twang looped up to maximum effect and not much chopping of the sample. The scratched hook isn’t here on this one either but instead we get someone who sounds like one of the NYG’s telling us emphatically that the “female G Rap” is back in effect. As for the vocals, well she comes correct with that unmistakable voice and flow, letting us know that she has kept it moving while admonishing some of the emcees of today coming with their insipid, cookie cutter deliveries and tired subject matter. Another example of underground rap talking about rap then but when it’s done with this kind of panache, how can you resist?
