This New York rapper has been making some serious moves with a string of really impressive tracks featuring on a string of mixtapes as well as collaborations with the likes of The A-Team, Roc-A-Fella’s Freeway and Styles P from D Block. His style is straight gritty and street as his lyrics unfold to tell stories of life in the inner-city projects of America. The first thing that attracted me to this mixtape was the superb artwork and the fact it’s hosted by DJ Vlad ‘The Butcher’ who is responsible for a string of classic mixtapes including 2 Pac’s ‘Rap Phenomenon Mixtape’. Weighing in with over twenty tracks ‘Every Man Ain’t A God Damn Boss’ features a whole host of highlights including the massive ‘Close Your Eyes Featuring Rain & Montega’, the down right dirty banger ‘Dump On’ Em Featuring 354’s Synp Life & Montega’ as well as my personal favourite ‘Hip-Hop’ which pays homage to the scene well. Geolani speaks direct on this track and guest rapper Big Cas from South Carolina also impresses. Other guests on this mixtape include St. Laz, Co Reed, Paul Wall, Brixx and Freeway, with production by Ty Up, Ty Stix, Ghost, Cells and the ever-consistent Liveson. Geolani is making big waves in the US and with quality mixtapes like this it’s not going to be long before the UK really gets up on this talented NY rhymer. If you’re not up on Geolani then this is a good place to start as it is his best work to date.
