Feeling good solid Hip-Hop music from the East Coast that used be around before US major labels just signed Gangsta Rap? Then this is for you! Outta Boston via New York and New Jersey this independently run organisation have actually impressed before with a great release entitled ‘Roxbury Rituals’. I love the Jazzy Jeff/Jay Dee/Pete Rock feel in the production but I’m not into the sung hook and feel that a DJ cutting up something would have suited the track better. MC wise, there’s some real experience in the house with Boston’s original veteran Edo G blessing us with a killer sixteen bars. This is all magical as Iceman’s very own Backdraft also impressed me as did Akrobatik. There’s some real rap skills being thrown-down here and this track is one of the best ‘Hip-Hop’ tracks I have heard since Little Brother’s album. With the album ‘Massmindstate’ due for release before the end of the year, things are looking good for Iceman Records. If they keep dropping gems like this then this label could be like a Fat Beats of Boston without a doubt. This is something that is well worthy of your attention, so don’t sleep on Iceman Records.
