Various WILDSTYLE LP
Charlie Ahearn’s ‘Wildstyle’ is the seminal Hip hop film, but it is the soundtrack from it that resonates so deeply in what was once such a proud musical culture.
Artists as important and diverse as Cypress Hill, Beastie Boys, Nas and MF Doom among many others have sampled this highly referential soundtrack, to the point that the film almost exists as just that; 10 second, uber cool samples stitched into the fabric of mighty classics like ‘Illmatic’ and ‘Operation Doomsday’.
Of course this isn’t the first release of the ‘previously unreleased’ track and instrumentals as stated but it is the first ‘official’ release of every beat and rap you could possibly ask for, including ‘Wildstyle Lesson’, the cymbal reverb freakiness of ‘B Boy Beat’ as well as a straight up ‘previously unreleased’ instrumental of my personal favorite, ‘Military Cut’.
All beautifully packaged and in the élan of this charming and truly special film.
This is dope to the power of 1,000,000,001! Forget Kanye and 50 and go cop yourself the zeitgeist.
