For a kosher cat Abdominal certainly brings home the bacon on this funk fuelled single. The single comes from the concept-driven, ‘Escape from the Pigeon Hole’ LP, and as the title would suggest, this is one rapper who prefers treadmills and books to bitches and bling.
‘Abdominal Workout’ sees the return of the highly successful DJ Format/Abdominal combination, which had students across the country attempting dance moves well beyond their inebriated capabilities. And this banger is likely to keep up the tradition as Format throws up signature fat snares and not–so-signature guitar strings which Abdominal whips into a lyrical submission.
Brighton beatsmith Natural Self is on the remix, throwing in trumpets and bongo snaps for good measure. The tongue-in-cheek, ‘Satan Music’, isn’t quite as emphatic as the A-side but head nodding credentials are still firmly intact.
This lyrically dexterous Canadian continues to etch his own indelible mark onto the hip hop landscape with his sharp, reality rhymes and good time vibes.
