Handsome Boy Modelling School Sunshine 12"

Dan the Automator, Prince Paul and Money Mark team up with Sean Lennon on vocals to bring this downtempo wandering soul track to our ears. Well constructed bits of piano doodling and guitar noodling sail across a repetitive harpsichord loop whilst a cliched vocal exalts us to forget our worries and heartache. However, despite its best intentions it meanders dreadfully - fails to grab your attention and never appears to reach a melancholic climax. It works well within the self-titled album but is not sufficiently strong to merit attention without the comfort of its surrounding LP track-mates.

The Rollo remix (by Sister Bliss of Faithless) is pointless - putting a larger drum break and fuzzbox bassline underneath the same track is not creativity - and listeners are not stupid......bare laziness on the remix. This release from the pucca LP is the weakest stand alone track from the album but not the most unlistenable (that accolade goes to the appalling Alex Empires B-Boy Megatron 2000). Mebbe the reasons for its release are that it’s a friendly song that has the potential to be hammered on prime-time spring commercial radio - but it truly fades to obscurity in comparison to the well received first release (Rock n’ Roll)....a disappointing stab at a “soon it will be summer” hit.
