DJ spooky feat Killah priest Catechism #2 Wreckism remix
12"
Another set of artists indirectly work with wu tang. Last year Skinnyman and Blade do a track with Rza (released on the next Rza album) and Black Twang did a remix of careful (click click)...this year opens up with a nice remix by Deckwrecka and his mates MCD and 2ice.
As you can expect production is top notch, Deckwrecka has created a very musical beat, with a nice variation at what point would be called the bridge in a rock song. The beat is based around some quiet acoustic guitar loops with what sounds like a kids recorder playing eerily along and is beefed up with some nice drums and bass line. Again, Deckwrecka doesn't disappoint in the turntable department and some scratching takes care of the beat nicely.
The first verse is handled by MCD, he speaks some tough deep voiced lines, which on first listen, like the rest of the track are unappreciated, but once you've listen to the track a few times, you will find yourself mumbling along with the "hhhhHaa?" rhyme:
"...I'm a horrible dude - I ain't nice - hhhhHaa?
Wanna run me over with lyrics? - I use a car! - hhhhHaa!..."
You'll see what I mean when you have a listen.
Next up is Killah Priest's verse off the original, which is good, but in my opinion doesn't hold the clout of MCD's verse, and lastly 2ice drops a verse, which is high-quality, but MCD is a hard bloke to follow in terms of the sheer robustness which he has.
On the whole a quality record, the only way you know it's a remix is that none of Killah Priest's speech is at the beginning of the track and his verse is the only American accent. The twelve also includes the instrumental and accapella of Wreckism and another remix of the original, Catechism, which is good but doesn't have the variation of Wreckism.
