It's making me feel old, the speed at which these 7"s of funk drop from the home of quality London clubnight Breakin Bread. This latest one featuring two tracks by a plethora of made-up people (Monk Mc Ferret, Mr Vincent and the Jazzmag Sextet...hmmm) is probably by Tufkut, Rob Life and assorted others. Blink and you'll miss them cos these are quick tracks (2:40 each). 'Crumpet Chase' is a deep bass roller and sounds like something you'd hear during the fight scene of the (original) Batman series until the end where it goes all Money Mark and funky hammond organ on us. 'Death Of 1000 Cuts' is a cut & paste turntable samplathon and sounds like an out-take from one of the Shigger Fragger shows. Toilet and sex-humour for the South Park generation. Like all of the Breakin Bread 7s series this one has its moments. Its getting ever difficult to review these records and whilst this isn't the best of the 5 so far it should still be worth tracking down. But if you already know about them then you know you should be picking this one up as well, and if you havent got them yet then what have you been doing? Whether you need a quick slice of funk to drop between your scratching sets or if you just like to piss off the neighbours by dropping massive beats you need to listen to these records. And to hear them in their full glory get yer ass down to the Plug once a month (see the gig guide for lineups)
