Regular readers will know of my penchant for 7"s and for those gaps when Breakin Bread aren't delivering there's a new label in town. The fantastically named 'Puma Strut Records' from Brighton have just had this one 45 out so far, but many more are planned this year. At 5 quid (inc P&P) for a couple of funk tracks it's not gonna be everyones idea of a bargain, but they're doing it alone, sharing profits with the artists and making music that makes your body move so what the heck? Both of these tracks by Beathovan start with a vocal snippet and then go into some nice instrumental cutup hiphop with added funk. Plenty more vocal samples throughout and some nice scratching to break up the simple but effective repetitive loops. It's not hugely original ground breaking music, but fans of the aforementioned Breakin Bread nights or 7"s will find equal satisfaction in this EP...and if you don't trust my writings then listen to the samples on their website. © ukhh.com 1999 - 2000 |
