27 Beats Entertainment TimeQuake b/w Distance 7"
Following on from their impressive ‘Death Jam’ release, 27 Beats Entertainment serve up another tasty 7”. This mini-platter is limited to just two emcees, unlike the first release, seeing Rup & See take on the task. Also, unlike the first, this is pressed at 45rpm which is much nicer!
‘TimeQuake’ is superbly produced by Jack Baker Trio, with multiple string samples building an epic image over the understated but funky drums. Both lyricists don’t waste the opportunity of such a fine backing and produce some thoughtful lyrics to finish off the track. The b-side builds nicely with a stripped down break, then adding sparse pianos keys to complete ‘Distance’. Gabriel Cornish’s beat is not exactly a club track, but definitely more of a headnodder than the first. Add some lyrics which are well worth paying attention to and you’ve effectively got another a-side.
This is marginally better than the first offering from these boys, so that can only work in their favour. Another 7” to add to your collection and it’s another little gem, but you best get off your rass pretty quick, as only 200 copies exist.
