Smokey Road Zombies 7" This was my first introduction to a group named Phobia and a producer rapper from that stable known as Smokey. Thankfully, my first meeting was a good one, with Smoking hitting hard on his first single release. This is a full little 7” record, with three full length tracks, which many heads would be calling an EP nowadays! The lead, and undoubtedly the best track ‘Road Zombies’ is an incredibly raw sounding track, with a plonky piano sample and sharp drum machine breaks. Smokey & Bobby Drake spit rhymes influenced by something as simple as walking down the road, describing what they see, Ok, I may not have described it in a great light, but trust this is a proper piece of hiphop. The other two tracks display yet more talents of Smokey and also the Phobia famillia who show they are ones to keep an eye for in the future. Three full length tracks on 7” of black vinyl is not only value for money, but it fits in your back pocket… ok maybe not quite.
