Jehst The Return Of The Drifter 12"
This is a blinding twelve - Jehst handles the production and vocal duties and drops two class tracks upon a uk hiphop scene ready to find the next big 'saviour'.
The a-side has a nice crunchy musical beat - big kick drums with a tinkling piano loop floating across the double note b-line. Nothing over complex but something which works perfectly as a backdrop for Jehst's delivery. Jehst's lyrics on 'The Return Of The Drifter' are upto the usual standards of vocab n' flow - it all sits together coherently and whilst it doesnt have a direct topic it still comes with narrative style.
The b-side 'People Under The Weather' bounces along with a classy double bass n' xylophone driven beat. Everything joins in the middle as Asaviour n' Jehst lace up some topical lyrics across the large production. Asaviour rocks the mic with smoothness n' rides the beat proper - Jehst handles things with the usual medley of clever wordplay and clear diction. This tracks brings vibes and will make your headnod whilst making you give a sly smile at the poetic jousting. Jury aint out - a bad track laced with talent. The vinyl package is completed with full instrumentals and acapella's for all the hungry mc's n' producers - so get learning n' recognise the level of the bar being set by Jehst.
Overall, a wicked 12 that showcases all the best elements of Jehst's production and mic talent on another high quality Lowlife release. This is a double release with a CD based EP containing 11 tracks from past vinyl releases on Lowlife and YNR - catch this if your new to the geezer n' need to catch up on your homework. Things are looking bright if one of uk hiphops new guns can carry this quality through a whole longplayer in 2003.
