Apollo Think 12"
The brand new 12" from the Man known as Apollo. Another quality 2 track 12" release, and yet again both tracks are top notch. We have the lyrical comedy of "think", and the vocal dexterity of "nar not me".
Dealing with the A side first we have "think", produced also by himself this is the shizzle! Apollo comes with something lacking from records these days, comedy. From the opening line "I carry foot and mouth disease in a thundferbirds lunchbox, moving through peckham like a Japenese black OX" you know you're in for a ride, and trust me, vocally, you won't be disappointed. Whilst proclaiming to be the black David Hasslehoff, and being Dwight Yorke's street dentist mashing up his teeth whilst eating meat fray and bentos, Apollo will have you in stitches with his word play, infact some of the best i've heard in a while. The beat itself is nothing extroadinary, but it's all about the lyrics this track for me. The beat is simple and effective, straight drum patterns so you can catch all of the lyrics. All in all this will keep most people happy, except those expecting a street anthem.
"Nar not me" seems to want to set the record straight about a few things, as an example "i never compromised my style for the label cats". Apollo is certainly telling it how it is about a number of subjects, which if certain people listened to, i think they would do well to listen to Apollo's example. This track produced by Jehst has an almost oriental feel to it. Again the beats are tailored to let Apollo spit his verse's, which makes the track.
This 12" is currently one of my favourites at the moment with regular play on my show, it always goes down well. Something for the more discerning Hip Hop listener, this is straight up good Hip Hop.
