 Phi-Life Cypher Over 12"

Doing the rounds on promo at the moment it's the verbal tounge twisting talents of Phi-Life Cypher,
this time returning via a collabo with Task Force on Jazz Fudge, with the double A side of "over" and "cypher funk" on the up and coming label "Zebra Traffic" from Brighton.

Being two of the most talented emcee's in the country, in my opinion, It always amazed me how much content they managed to fit into 4 minutes, and this is no different, except with the inclusion of guest rapper Skit Slam.

First side is "over", with undertones of perhaps an old motown/soul break, the simple beats keep the track un-complecated in nature, leaving plenty of space for vocal mastery of the 3 emcee's featured. Using some old vocal snpiitts intertwined with the emcee's vocals shows a well worked idea, clever and on point. Skit Slam offers a different flow from Life and Si-Philli which breaks up the tune nicely. Phi-Life coming with there usual double barrelled onslaught. A solid piece of work all round, this is not normally my cup of tea, but should appeal to a lot of Hip Hop heads. Well thought out with Nappa's beats sounding tight as usual.

Flip to the AA side and we have "cypher funk", a completely different style for your ear lobes.
At first i thought Gary Moore was guesting on this offering, but it's got too much funk for the said blues artist to be involved! This tune hit the spot for me, with the blues sounding loops making you wanna play your air guitar, the layout of the vocals with Skit Slam breaking up the two Phi Life verses, this is one of my favourite Phi-Life tracks to date already.

With a new LP scheduled for release in Feb 2003 on the up and coming label "Zebra Traffic", i think
we should all make a note of this in our calender's. And also keep an eye on other forthcoming
releases from this brighton based label, they have material from Cappo for release as well i hear,
which should make this a label to watch for the new year.
