Mystro Tellin' You/Strong Rhymin' 12"
This Double-A 12 inch release from the natural born spitter, Mystro, shows off his considerable talents. Easily one of the best rappers on the scene, his voice and flows ooze charisma and credibility, and his punch line heavy delivery is in full effect here… a quick release to precede the “Music Mystro” EP, out now too. “Tellin’ You” is produced by Braintax and is a synth-electro, mid-paced beat without much going on musically. But this is intentional, sparse so that Mystro can run riot all over the track with his street commentary, “babies having babies and ladies getting rabies…any fool can run on you with a loaded tool…” Mystro is able to set up a good introduction to his lyrical arsenal and future concepts and themes to come. The general subject matter is good way of announcing his arrival, especially after years of honing his skills, playing out regularly and hosting Kung-Fu for the last year and a bit.
The track on the flip, “Strong Rhymin’” is a Harry Love-produced beat. It’s a bit more eloquent musically, use a nice call and response between a piano triplet and a string stab. Roughly the same tempo as “Tellin You”, Mystro attacks this beat with more aggression, coming harder with his delivery and the imagery he conjures in the four minute structure. His strong rhyming is showcased fully on this track, stronger than “Tellin You”. The subject matter is the usual standard fare about stronger lyrical context, braggadocio lines. It works because Mystro’s conviction is evident in both the texture of his voice and the passion behind every line. He seems to fit into the role of the natural born spitter easily. This can only be through the years of experience he has. With “Music Mystro” in the shops and more to come this year, Mystro has been biding his time. And it looks like it will pay off. Own this!
