 C-Mone Stan Bac 12"

Son went on a splurge last year with several EPs out in a matter of months, then Pitman made a shitload of sales and it seemed Al was enjoying the success and putting his feet up. Well that may have happened, but he hasn't been totally idle and neither has one of the UK's finest femcees - the delectable C-Mone. Soon she'll be back with the follow up to the UK Chant / My Boy release and what's more she and Al are definitely stepping up their game with the release of a video to accompany the single Stan Bac. The video was directed by Luke Biggins and was produced by DNR films. Like all videos Son get their stamp on there right up front with an intro in which their Warrior symbol is pictured against a grainy fiery background accompanied by a drum roll and trumpet fanfare.

The video is well produced with good picture quality and a number of different scenes cut together across the duration. There is a brief choreographed element, but the majority of the video focuses on C-Mone rapping to the camera in a club environment wearing a variety of outfits. The other staged element is when a taxi driver gets a door to his face. In the outro the breakers are given time to show their skills. In all it is pretty much what you would expect with nothing mind blowing in terms of shots or storyboarding, but then I would suppose that this was completed on a tight budget. It is much more than sufficient though, C-Mone is photographed well and looks great, and hopefully this video should be hitting your screens soon.

The track its self is also heavy and where C-Mone has occasionally been inconsistent in the past this track is a right banger. The production is tight and is mainly based around a Fred Wesley type continuous tone which is overlaid with plucked notes from a steel guitar. The rocking beat is ideal for C-Mone to spit in her own unique Notts stylee. Her lyrics as with many of her tracks follow a narrative of a story. This one is about getting ready to go aut for the night and the experiences encountered from C-Mone's perspective as she 'Gets Ready To party'. In chronological order first she gets ready, doing her hair and make up and choosing her garms. The night progresses as she gets hassled by a taxi driver who gets dealt with sharply, to arriving at the club and searching out the speakers to feel the bass. To observing the other clientele and underage ravers getting chatted up etc.

I don't have any production notes to let you know who did the production, or who laid down the cuts at the end. But whoever this team are they all work together well and I hope to hear more stuff like this.
