Evil Ed Nico Suave 12"
Evil Ed’s new release features Yungun in his smooth Nico Suave guise. Over a gorgeous plucked Spanish guitar melody and rocking percussion, Yungun tears the beat wide open with some proper party lyrics about pulling. He is Nico Suave, and over the hook delivers some hyped-up half Spanish shouts. Yungun knows how to rock a party and this is a gorgeous beat to spit over. The guitar melody has a beautiful arpeggio in it and the intervals are bouncy enough to sustain a proper hip-hop beat. “Courvosier’s too expensive, pass the vino, let’s get lively.” This is Yungun’s mission statement all over. Sick of Uk hiphop being stuck in the bleak grime of everyday living that most of it falls victim to, Yungun wants more party music and more liveliness.
The B-side features Jehst and Asaviour musing on Jehst’s favourite subject: sweet ol’ Mary Jane on “Weed.” He takes us on a journey through his weed smoking past. The music by Evil Ed has a nice sombre guitar line with some subtle scratching complimenting it. The drums are nice on it. Jehst sounds good half-stoned and Asaviour also comes with similar lyrics.
All in all, a nice package showing off a wicked producer with a good ear for MCs, using their strengths well and creating the beat around their voices rather than for their voices. A producer to look out for.
