 BC400 Single One 12"

With all the confusion between the Buttercuts Crew and the Fabulous Pistachios, it was time for an image revamp. Out went the Buttercuts Crew, and in came BC400, two extra members in soul singer Christabel and toaster David Boomah and they were ready.

“Toast Masters”, the lead single off “Single One” is a quality song. Dub-heavy and packed with reverbs and delays echoing all over the place. A bassline Iration Steppas or Roots Manuva would salivate over, it’s left to Wild Eye and Code:Breaker to deliver booming verses tearing down the city, before Cultcam comes in on the hook. Code:Breaker’s verse is particularly strong and he certainly knows how to rip any beat given him. Boomah’s outro takes the song down a bit but with the booming riddim track, it’s impossible to hate the infectious reggae vibe all over it. A new direction for the BC400 lot. “Run to the Hills” is more standard hip-hop fare, and with Cultcam’s excellent political verse bringing proceedings to a continental edge, it’s up to Code:Breaker to deliver another strong verse over this bass-heavy Uncle P beat. This is a great release and the breaking out into new styles on “Toast Makers” makes the Buttercuts, sorry, BC400 album a prospect to be beheld. With fbc fabric and the Pistachios all planning on releasing material in the next 12 months, this is one label you do not want to sleep on.
