Debut release from this West London trio. Arms Length’s vocalists Darkus, Keys and Double-M have created two slices of street life across producer Beezwax’s morosely dark beats. Opener ‘Best of British’ features a simple organ looped beat underwhich each emcee boastfully introduces matters of hip hop and everyday livelihood – nothing lyrically groundbreaking but a nice chorus, tight delivery and clear diction create a smooth package. The flipside ‘Metropolitics’ is more inspiring with a tight drum break working alongside uplifting string/harp sweeps – vocally the crew hit harder with a more focused subject driven performance. Overall, the subject matter is slightly worn but for a debut release the whole crew have vocal skills allied with strong mic presence. I’ll be checking for the next release.
