Ghost Let 'Em Know 12"
Ghosts debut 'Ghost Stories' EP was well liked at ukhh towers prompting as it did three favourable reviews. difficult 2nd 12" time as he builds towards first his mix CD and then his full length debut which should all be happening this year
rollcall - Kashmere, Yungun, Conspicuous, Jazz T, Asaviour and Verb T all present and correct and if that doesn't interest you then why the heck are you on this site?
The Ghost, Kash and Verb T roadshow has been travelling the length and breadth of the country following the latters debut split LP released on lowlife, Kashmere's solo cut here 'Let Em Know' has been kicking around on demo's and CD-Rs for a while, you know the one, with the monk chanting sample through the breakdown and sharp-as drumbeats and some vocal cuts all laced with Kashmeres cool and distinctive flow... and it's represented here in radio, dirty and instrumental forms
On the flip you get two more vocal cuts - 'Vices/Verses' with Yungun & Conspicuous (The Colony) dropping nice vocals over a summer flute vibe. My personal favourite Essa track is the horizontal 'City Break' so another more chilled track to give YG his time to shine is more than welcome, Conspicuous comes correct as well more than matching Yungun's verse over the tight rolling b-line and crisp summery hi-hats all with a scratch breakdown supplied by Diversion Tactics Jazz T before going into an instrumental run down. There's also a full instrumental so you can catch the extent of the production vibe to the full
Finally 'Exactly' from the first EP gets the remix treatment, same tempo (drop them on top of each other), same dope lyrics from two correct emcees. The drums have been tightened up and the flute from the original has been dropped in favour of a piano lick and what might be a twisted sax but seeimgly not that different from the original and sits alongside Vices/Verses as two essential cuts for summer jams
Once again a varied EP that shows Ghost is one of the best producers around at the moment. Two EPs in, it's time to bring on the long player and check for an albums length of consistently quality production....
The 12's out in May but to get a taster check out the launch party at Breakin Bread, The Rhythm Factory, E1 on Saturday 30th April, check the bread site for more details
