 Bias Deceive 12"

A dreamy track, an atmosphere and feeling instantly recognisable as Bias. The rolling bass keeps the track moving under the start/stop piano and string samples, while the vocal is cut-in sparingly and effectively, telling us "Oh what a wicked web we weave, when we practice to deceive...". It's not classic Bias, it left me wanting more, a feeling that the track could have gone places that were left unexplored, but for a summery head-nodder no-one does it better.

The Giacomo mix features beefed-up drums to give the neck muscles that extra workout, a smattering of a dub vibe thrown in with some echo. He lets the track build, bringing in the strings later on, and letting the drums get lively, before calming things down again for the end. A quality reworking of the title track.

Lewis Parker's presence on the flip is always a bonus. Bias & Parker together brings back so many good memories that heads would be excused for going straight to the B-side. "Arabesque" doesn't disappoint. Some funky guitar reminiscent of the Shaft soundtrack, along with a deep and original live bassline from Ali Gillies - a great idea that fits in really well with the track - and some dropped-in reminders of past collaborations with "drifting on a memory" being nicely scratched in at the end, makes a great backdrop for Lewis to do his thing as only he can. Pure quality. And the instrumental to boot ... what more could you ask for?

Careful now - Arabesque is exclusive to this 12, so for some of this pure goodness don't go waiting for the album!
