 Lushlife No Foundation 12"

You won’t have heard of the name Lushlife before, and that is because he isn’t your average hip hop artist. He didn’t start in his bedroom or teething his mic skills at local ciphers and he didn’t learn to use the MPC and sample old school records to make dusty beats. However he did fall in love with the music early on in life, but instead took a much more classical route which saw him spend 13 years in classical piano training and another 7 doing a course in Jazz kit drumming. He’s performed at the prestigious Steinway Hall in New York and has arranged music for Jazz artists and performed on street corners. However after feeling disillusioned with his direction he fell back on his first love and his now delivering his first album, ‘Order of Operations’, the first single of which is ‘No Foundation’, released this summer on Scenario records.
With such an atypic background you’d think his music might sound more classical than your average release… yet it isn’t. ‘No Foundation’ is a lovely, upbeat hip hop track, with some nice melodies and catchy vocals from Lush himself. While the production is pretty solid, the lyrics take a little getting used to but after a few listen you can’t help singing along and thinking that this is indeed the work of a talented person. On the flip you get a more dancefloor minded and soulful remix courtesy of Yam Who, switching up the more hip hop vibe of the original.
So a good, strong start for this classical bboy and a nice taster of what could be one of the surprise albums of the year.

A lovely, upbeat hip hop track
