The Blacknificent Seven Ere Comes Da Black 12"

Here’s a heavy UK Posse Cut the likes of which we haven’t seen in a long time. Headed by Seanie T following his recent Darka Dayz compilation, the Blacknificent 7 are Skeme, Roots Manuva, Rodney P, Est’Elle, Karl Hinds, Jeff 3 and Seanie T. This first single is a very decent offering, with the title cut ‘Ere Comes Da Black’ on a totally ragga, dancehall tip. The beat is nice and bashy but does get a bit repetitive after a while, a shame as you’ve got to sit through 7 verses and so it does end up grating you slightly. However the release comes with 2 relicks, one courtesy of the in-demand DJ Mentat and the other from Keith Lawrence. The kicker being my promo copy included neither… Ah well, I hear they’re actually better than the original though. So even more reason to go and cop this.
Lyrics wise is pretty strong throughout too, which you’d expect with some of London’s finest MCs in charge.
The flip offers up ‘Mrs. Onda’Syde’ this time featuring Seanie T and Jeff 3 on their own, chatting about the bit on the side. Cue lyrics about relationships, sex and respect (or in this case the lack of) over a nice head nodding beat with a lovely slapped up bassline. I actually find myself liking this track better than the Posse Cut. Overall though a nice little 12” that shows the best of London lyricists.
