 Beezwax Dead Stranger 12"

Coming as a first from new label ‘Out Of The West Records’ is the three track 12” from Beezwax, someone I for one know nothing about, other than the fact he’s a producer. A producer who likes to use BIG samples!

For “Dead Stranger” he utilises a real famous rock sample, which is driving me mad as I try to put my finger on it. It’s one of those which are so obvious you can’t get it! In fairness though, the beat is a bit slow paced and it doesn’t help with an emcee in Mickey Stix who comes fairly dry and doesn’t breathe much life into the whole thing! The “What’s Poppin’ Remix” is much more energised though, with Anne Lennox’s “Sweat Dreams” being rocked hard! The line up of emcees Kyza, Triggs and Darkus helps too, as they all mash up the beat. The final track “Westmen” has some proper synth action which I love, which allows the emcees to get their party on.

For their first release, Out Of The West have delivered a possible mixed bag, owing to the poorness of the lead single, thankfully though the other two show promise for this fledgling label and of course, producer Beezwax.
