Blak Twang Help Dem Lord / Thumbz Up 12"

After disappearing from my conscious for a minute, Blak Twang is back with his new single, “Help Dem Lord” which I swear this was the signing-off chant on one of his previous singles / albums? Oh well, I’ll look that ish up when I can.

The track focuses on all the troubles in the world today, but rather than feeling like some rant, it’s actually quite uplifting, with it’s powerful production and sing-along chorus. I’m not convinced this single is going to have any real lasting appeal, a lá So Rotton, but it will certainly do until the album rolls up. The B-side is on a real Southern Bounce vibe, but The Rotton One stamps his London twang on it, with lines like “You say you’re a gansta but your shirt’s from Asda”.

You’ve got to hand it to him, after releasing “Kik Off” I wasn’t convinced Twang had much more left and whilst the direction he now heads is not to everyone’s taste, he makes tracks that are likely to be gobbled up by more people than just the average crotch grabbing backpack ginger kid. Let’s hope the album includes a few more of these.
