Braintax Biro Funk / Don't Drag Me In 12" Braintax, a new 12”, funk (Biro that is) what more can we ask for. I was privileged enough to be sent a copy of the new Braintax 12” the other day. What was the first thing I did after listening to it? (after knocking one off in the bathroom) got straight round to reviewing it. 2 tracks deep (Biro Funk and Don’t drag me in) plus 2 instrumentals on the B side. Mmmmmm, the thought of it excites me. Anyway enough of my ranting, here’s the review. ‘Don’t Drag Me In’ From the first 2 bars Braintax raps on this track you know it’s going to be a classic Hip Hop record. Produced by Braintax himself, Don’t drag me in has real funky beats and straight forward lyrics that are easy on the ears. Before I go any further I have to state that Braintax is one of my favourite artists so I do find it hard to say anything bad about the man. Without being biased though this is a real head nodder that’ll get the dance floor jumping, the girlies wet and the thugs on the corner put down their gats and forget about driveby’s for a few minutes. Did I say it features Mystro and Harry Love? Keeping it funky, this is what UK Hip Hop is all about. A definite anthem for 2001. ‘Biro Funk’ More funk, this is what we need. I’m sick and tired of going to clubs seeing the same old (I’m too hardcore to dance mentality). Get the fuck up or get the fuck out (excuse my language). This is where tracks like Biro Funk step in. I defy anybody who doesn’t shake their ass when this track comes on. Another club track, produced by Colin Emmanuel aka C Swing who produced Jamelia’s hits of last year as well as the recent Beta Band album. Biro Funk is a real smooth, funky, get of your ass and represent type of tune that the British public are crying out for. Again (like Don’t drag me in) Biro Funk isn’t too complex in the way Braintax delivers his vocals, which is nice because far too many emcees nowadays are trying to come too complex, spacey and technological. The track opens with Briantax rapping “Make some noise for the biro funk, I swear I gave the weed up but now I’m getting deep into skunk”. This is what we need more of, lyrics folk can relate to. What else can I say apart from, the man has done it again, another dope record from the Low Life camp.
